Helllo Friends... this past week... wen ppl were in a festive mood.. i had a friday off to trek to Beas Kund....
Its a wonderful short trek close to Manali which is easily accesible from Delhi....
Theres a sayin a belief that when one of the Gods landed here this lake was automaticcally formed n filled with water... n hence river Beas orignated from it....
One very spectacular thing about this kund is that its very very deep and unlike other lakes its deep right from the edges or boundary of the lake...as if some one has actually dug it....
Also no women are allowed to bathe in the lake...only males... n once it seems one of the treker dived in to the lake n went too much to the center.... he drowned n no one ever saw his body after that....
Belive it or Not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tats smething bout the Kund.... now about my experience...
I started delhi on Thursday Evenin n reached manali on friday mornin early 8.30 am.... i had spoken to a guide named Tikam Thakur whom i met around 10.30 am...
We shopped for our food items... rented our tent and mattress n utensils n left for the mountains... We camped at a place called Dhundi were Tikam's son was my guide... Overnight at Dhundi n nex morning we left for Beas Kund.... It took us 4 hrs to reach Beas Kund... we met sme ppl at Beas Kund who were back after a trek to Shetidhar.....
the same day we came bak to our camp stayed there overnight and next morning left for manali...n same evening i boarded a Volvo to get back to delhi... n Damn monday mornin i attended office.... trust me it absolutly sucks to attend office after a trek......
check out the map and the location of Beas Kund...might be of sme help to you.........
i would classify this trek as Easy to Fairly Moderate.... lookin at my not so very fit body structure.... hahahaha...
i classify this trek into 7 small stretches....
Stretch 1 was a gentle climb
Stretch 2 walk gets even gentler along river Beas
Stretch 3 A climb leads to Bakar Tach.. Moderate climb
Stretch 4 A flat walk leading to Camping Site of Bakar Tach
Stretch 5 A tedious climb along the glacier Moraine its steep really steep about a 500m climb
Stretch 6 crossing the huge boulders n the crevasses on top of the Beas Glacier
Stretch 7 A flat walk along the glacial valley to reach Beas Kund… the origin of River Beas.
My journey started from Solang village...its a highly commercialized place with loads of activity to doo....
The Beautiful Valley....

n the Apple orchards.... though the season was over found sme trees still blossomin wit bright red apples....

Love these bridges.....

i crossed along this bridge to reach the place were we were gonna put our camp.....
Was a beautiful place surrounded by the mighty mountains n the clear sky.....

The blue skys n the greeen grasss....

oh how can i forget...we had a small stream nex to which we placed our tent.... mini Beas...
there you go ... our tent gettin ready.....

once ready it looked like this.......Beautiful...small yet comfortable....
By evenin... guess wat i see.....
yup... the Rays of Hope.... they always follow me....o rather they with me.....

Nex morning ...we got up early... had a nice ginger tea... maggie n then left for the Mountains....
the beautiful morning...
as said above..our first stretch was pretty gentle climb....

Now tats the beautiful Hanuman Tibba.....n Parvati which is lil at the back... n yeah..there lotsa peak there Unnamed....
on several occasions we crossed from one side to other... crossin River Beas....

Jus cant belive how blue can the sky get... awsome weather it was.....
We gettin closer to Bakr Tach so are we gettin closer to Hanuman Tibba....

yup... thats were i came up from.....
Me n Chandar... my guide....

There we go.... jus reached Bakar thach.... the green Medows..its another place for camping... especially wen attemptin for those huge peaks.....
gettin close to the steeper climb... jus above Bakar Thach.......
pic above yu ll see... Hanuman Tibba and 730
Above you see the Friendship, Shetidhar and the Ladhaki....
Tats Bakar Thach..camping area....
Trust me friends.... this picture no way depicts the actual reality...
Reality is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wen we started climbin the Moraine....
i looked down that way.... n far down there was our camp.....

n this is how close we get to Hanuman Tibba.............
and thats how steep it gets....
Excuse me Boys!!!!!!!!!!!!

in the pic above..can you locate my guide... now do yu get that faint idea bout how steep it gets.....
Sitting on the ridge... i saw exactly this.......
and tthats were i came from... was the best stretch opf the trek................
we had to then cross the Beas Glacier...a bit tricky..crossin on huge boulders n avoidin crevasess... on few occasions did i misplaced my foot....n trust me...its scary....

chek out that huge crevasse in the pic below
Exactly in the center of the pic below.... yu see a T-shaped vegetation under which is the depression of Beas Kund.......
this is a huge glacial valley.... its a long walk to the kund once you cross the glacier....
have seen this very often in Himalayas especially close to any of the kund's or tal's... its a pile of rock supposed to be errected by Buddhist people.... the use to worship this....
Jus got closer to the Kund....and the peak above is Shetidhar....
a small temple on the edge of kund....

The Beas Kund... small yet beautiful... it has an impact on you at its first sight!!!!!!!!!!

the kund... n the reflections of diffrent peaks around the kund in its water.........

if yu watch carefully... yu wont be able to see the floor of the lake...wierd... isnt it...

It freezes in winter...wen you can walk right to the center of the kund...

and thats me at the Kund....

Guess whom i met there.... Bubbli... the Doggie..
On my way bak.. Mausam got from Good to Bad to Worst... it started rainin...

it jus got darker..... n by the time we reached our camp/// it rained down n snowed on the top of the peaks.... my guide told me...there were Bhalus in the hills... who loved to feast on Cattle.... n i found one skull.....

Evenins at the camps were bornfire n cooking....
trust me... its amazin to be nex to a bornfire wen its chiilllyyy out there.......

Finally at the end of the trek i was happy.... 2 nights in the mountains and a day full of trek...wat else could you ask for....such a lovely break from day to day schedule..... Wanna come bak and attemt the Patalsu peak from Solang village... Some day.. Surly...
As of now..as my tradition goes... Once again i thank Mother Nature for giftin us with the Great Himalayas....
Thanking You..
Tanzeem Patankar...
